BMW CCA Great Plains Chapter

Thursday
May 23rd

The Great Plains Chapter is one of the newest & oldest chapter of the BMW CCA
(BMW Car Club of America). How exactly is that possible?

Great Plains is a new name for the chapter. It was previously known as the Missouri Valley chapter and before that the Cornhusker chapter. The chapter name was recently changed to better describe who we are both within BMW CCA and to the general public. People often assumed the Missouri Valley chapter was in Missouri. Our new name should eliminate such confusion.

Most events are primarily centered around Lincoln & Omaha since the majority of members live in these area. However we have traveled to the Black Hills several times for events. Events have also been held in other parts of Nebraska, South Dakota & Western Iowa. Example include: Kearney Cruise, Loess Hills Driving Tour, wine tours in Nebraska City and driving schools in Hastings, NE and Pacific Junction, IA.  Due to member interest we have started a sub-chapter in the Sioux Falls, SD.

At this time our Sioux Falls Area sub chapter has gone dormant. We are actively seeking a representative in the area to serve as a local point of contact. Happy Holiday Season,

Winter is about on us here in the Midwest.  One question….is your car ready?  I spent some of the unseasonably nice weather installing winter tires on the X5 and the pressures were set correctly.  I also topped all the fluids and made sure the wiper blades are in good shape, and if you have one, don’t forget the rear wiper on your SAV.  I also add some blankets and any other things I might like to have if I get stranded for any reason.  If you are traveling, add a gallon of ...

Oct 2011

Looks like summer is easing into fall at a nice slow pace, giving me just enough time to get the last clean, wax and maintenance done on the vehicles before it gets too cold out. Like many here, I have a set of tires and wheels specifically for winter driving, and another set for the summer. I find this the best option to ensure I have no issues in either season with tires that are not up to the challenge. After all, your tires is where it all happens…stopping, starting, turning and ensuring you...

E30 Oil Leak Repair

E30 Oil Leak Repair

E30 Oil Leak Repair

by John Campbell

I have been trying to eliminate all the small leaks on my E30 (second generation 3 series for the uninitiated) for some time. I thought that I had tracked them all down, but still had a persistent slow oil leak. With a little help from Markel BMW I finally tracked it down to the oil filter housing. BMW has a kit to repair the common problem, part number 11 42 9 059 338. The kit replaces the valve cover, the O ring and the retaining clip.

There are a few DIY’s on...

The best $15 You Can Spend On Your BMW

By Chet Dawes

A great way to spend $15 on your BMW is to put in 5 gallons of premium fuel and drive it. While this will certainly be enjoyable, I recently found another way to spend $15 on my car and was quite thrilled with the impact.

After washing and drying my car I was looking at the front end and noted that the headlight lenses have a slight sandblasted look to them. Seven years and some 67k miles of road debris has taken a toll on them. The wear/ tear wa...

E36 Window

E36 Window Preventive Maintenance

By Sheridan White

If you own a e36 (1992-98, 3 series) you have either had a window failure or are about to. The fix can be as simple as a new plastic guide and as costly as a new regulator. There is some preventive maintenance that can be performed to prevent the failure and damage if you are willing to spend a couple minutes removing each door panel and lubing up the rails and doing some other checks..

First you will need to remove the door panel. First start by ...

Kerwood's E39 M5

Kerwood's E39 M5

A special 3rd Generation M5 (E39)

By Tarun Kundhi

Our first featured car is Ben Kerwood's stunning 2000 BMW M5. The Imola Red paint is an absolutely beautiful color. It's evident the car has been maintained by a fanatical BMW owner and perfectionist. Which is no surprise as Ben's a BMW Master Tech. You would never guess this is a 11 year old car with 90k+ miles.

The alcantara headliner and aluminum trim nicely complement to the black leather interior. Ben's done a few tasteful modifications; AFE col...
